The cimbalom is a truly unique instrument. It is increasingly becoming part of concert life, and it is also attracting more and more composers, both on the classical music scene and on the experimental one.

That is why I created the Cimbalom Composer’s Guide: a practical overview of the instrument’s range, mallets and extended playing techniques, meant to help composers write new works for the cimbalom using these techniques. It is a short version of my master’s thesis Extended Techniques in Cimbalom Playing (Janáček Academy of Performing Arts in Brno, 2026). The video below demonstrates the techniques described in the guide.
